An appointment in Cell & Gene Therapy Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin invites applications for the Don Panoz Chair of Pharmaceutical Biology (2020). The Chair has been established to support innovation in advanced medicines generation. At this time the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking to appoint in the field of Advanced Therapeutic Medicinal Products (ATMP) especially those related to cell-based or gene therapy products.

Our School was established in 1977 and is the oldest academic pharmaceutical institution in Ireland and is ranked first in Ireland. Over the past 30 years we have educated generations of community pharmacists, clinical pharmacists and pharmaceutical industry leaders who work now in Ireland and worldwide. We take great pride in the achievements of our alumni as their success is a measure of our educational achievement.

Professorship at Trinity College Dublin

The Don Panoz Chair in Pharmaceutical Biology is a new Chair in Trinity in that has been enabled by a benefaction from the estate of Dr. Don Panoz. The Chair was established to promote innovation in advanced pharmaceutical product development and to pay tribute to Don Panoz’s legacy as a pharmaceutical innovator. Dr. Panoz had close connections to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and previously provided significant funding for the Panoz Institute, a purpose-built home for the School.

The School invites applicants with an outstanding research and development pedigree in the ATMP field. It is especially interested in scientists with a track record and interest in addressing fundamental and applied scientific challenges in the field such as widening the scope of existing cell-based approaches, for example CAR-T, to improvements in the production, formulation, storage or transport of cell and/or gene-based products to improvements in their testing, characterization and qualification enabling demonstration of consistency in product characteristics.

The successful candidate will have an excellent record in research and development, including high quality publications or similar outputs and significant grant funding, and in teaching, including the delivery of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision. The successful applicant will have a proven ability for effective and inspirational leadership, mentorship and management, possess

excellent communications skills and be willing to act as a senior leader within the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and to contribute to its affiliated research institutes.

The post will have an appropriate start-up support package. The School is establishing in parallel, a funded structured PhD School to support research in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
