Postdoctoral positions are available to investigate the disease mechanism of gestational diabetes, a medical condition in which women without previously diagnosed diabetes manifest high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes is one of the most common obstetrical complications. We focus on the delineation of the signaling pathway from gestational hormones to pancreatic beta-cell mass and function. We have generated a number of rodent models with genetic predisposition to developing gestational diabetes. Our goal is to characterize protein factors that integrate gestational hormones to beta-cell compensation for pregnancy. These studies are to uncover molecular targets for the prevention or therapeutic intervention of gestational diabetes. Candidates with beta-cell biology are encouraged to apply with CV and names of three references emailed to Dr. Henry Dong, Ph.D., Professor at dongh@pitt.edu, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
