Professorship (W3) for Theoretical Physics

INSTITUTE FOR THEORETICAL PHYSICS IV | AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY

The Faculty for Mathematics and Physics at the University of Stuttgart invites applications for a Professorship (W3) for Theoretical Physics. The incoming professor will direct the Institute of Theoretical Physics IV and should be responsible for research and teaching in the general area of Theoretical Physics. The department is looking for an outstanding individual who is internationally renowned in an emerging research area of Theoretical Physics of Complex Systems and who works analytically and/or with computer-aided methods. The subject matter should complement the existing research fields at the department, and could lie in the field of quantum information theory, the theory of 2D-materials, quantumfield theory with applications in solid state theory, collective active systems or the statistical physics of machine learning.

We expect the applicant to possess a sufficient teaching experience and the willingness to adequately participate in the regular theoretical physics syllabus for all physics courses (B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Sc. Int., PhD). The applicant should already have successfully attracted and managed third-party funded projects. Furthermore, we invite the applicant to develop a future-oriented research program that demonstrates how cooperation within the physics department as well as interdisciplinary cooperation with other faculties and the Stuttgart Max Planck Institutes can be initiated.

An active participation in one or more of the existing research networks at the University of Stuttgart, the Center for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology (IQST), the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2075 Data-integrated Simulation Science (SimTech), the Stuttgart Research Center of Photonic Engineering (SCOPE) and the Center for Applied Quantum Technology (ZAQuant) is expected.

The requirements for employment listed in § 47 and § 50 Baden-Württemberg university law apply.

Applications (including a CV, PhD certificate, list of publications, teaching concept, research programme, possible cooperations) should be sent in electronic form, preferably as a single PDF file, no later than October 26th, 2020, to Professor Dr. C. Holm, Faculty 8, University of Stuttgart, Pfaffenwaldring 57, D-70569 Stuttgart (email: dekanat@f08.uni-stuttgart.de). Additionally, we require the filled short application form/self-declaration which is available at: https://www.f08.uni-stuttgart.de/en/organization/job-postings/
