The ideal candidate for the Supervisor, Sterile Processing will have five years of hospital-based sterile processing experience to include two years in a team lead/supervisory capacity. Should also have one of the required certifications listed under licensure/certification.

Responsible for the supervision and training pertaining to all aspects of sterile processing to include the decontamination, preparation packaging sterilization and sterile storage. Operates and trouble shoots the equipment specific to Sterile Processing. Serves as a liaison resource between the operating room and sterile processing. Responsible for scheduling of staff and participates in the candidate selection process, orientation and performance evaluation. Ensures personal and team competency in all sterilization processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Personnel Supervision

Coordinates staff assignments to provide needed coverage. Manages personnel expenses with appropriate staffing. Promotes continued staff learning. Performs staff coaching, counseling and disciplinary action for improved performance, behaviors and productivity requirements. Facilitates new employee orientation. Participates in the candidate selection process. Conducts staff annual and periodic performance reviews within the established guidelines. Conducts quality control checks. Participate and conduct staff and self-development meeting/in-services. Proficiency in utilization of instrumentation tracking system. Responsible for maintaining a clean orderly work area.

Inventory Management
Facilitates timely ordering of instrumentation, supplies and implants. Identifies opportunities for cost reduction and expense control. Provides management with information for forecasting future instrumentation/equipment needs.

Instrumentation Resource
Responsible for the supervision and training pertaining to all aspects of sterile processing to include the decontamination, preparation packaging sterilization and sterile storage while adhering to department policies and procedures; ensures personal and team competency in all sterilization processes; ensures team compliance with quality control and repair and troubleshoot management of equipment. Serves as a liaison resource between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing.

EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate's degree.

EXPERIENCE
Required: Five years hospital-based sterile processing experience to include two years in a team lead/supervisory capacity.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required: One of the following: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM). Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD). Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Preferred: Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL).
