Bioinformatics Research Administration Fellow, Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

The Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is offering a bioinformatics research administration fellowship for scholars who have recently completed their Ph.D. The fellow will work with the Director of Computational Genomics to provide leadership across the IGB in the areas of bioinformatics and computational genomics. This will include working within the IGB and with other units on campus to develop initiatives that elevate the prominence of the IGB in computational genomics. The fellow will typically spend two or more years performing bioinformatics research administration, with an annual salary of $54,000.

In collaboration with or under supervision of the Director of Computational Genomics, the Fellow will assist with sections related to computational genomics on grant proposals led by IGB faculty, serving as participating personnel when appropriate; partner with faculty to learn their research interests and identify their computational genomics needs; establish connections and act as a liaison between IGB faculty and campus computational genomics researchers; develop computational genomics-related elements in strategic partnerships with external entities; develop a training program in conjunction with the Director of Computational Genomics geared towards building a campus-level cadre of computational genomics analysts and programmers; assist in organization and management of the Annual Computational Genomics course; partner with IGB staff to highlight computational genomics achievements internally and externally; and prepare periodic reports of achievements, challenges and plans.

Preference will be given to candidates with a background in computational genomics or bioinformatics with experience in interdisciplinary research projects. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in any science, engineering, or quantitative discipline, work either independently or collaboratively, and demonstrate strong communications, management, technical writing, and organizational skills. Applicants should submit a resume or CV and 2-3 letters of recommendation. This information should be sent to Professor Saurabh Sinha at sinhas@illinois.edu in advance of the closing date. The University of Illinois is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Visit www.igb.illinois.edu for additional information.
