The Department of Biological Sciences at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Plant Physiology, to begin July 1, 2021.

We seek a dynamic candidate with a commitment to high quality undergraduate education and research, a record of research and publication in plant physiology, and a PhD by the time of appointment; postdoctoral experience is desirable.  We expect the successful candidate to develop a productive research program focused on critical plant physiological processes and their implications for plant growth and development, function, adaptation, distribution and/or evolution.  This program should encourage the active involvement of undergraduate researchers.

 

Teaching responsibilities will include: participation in the Department’s introductory Molecules, Cells and Systems course and/or an introductory-level plant form, function, and diversity course; an intermediate-level plant physiology course and an upper-level course in the candidate’s area of expertise.

 

Exceptional resources to support research and teaching in ecology and in plant sciences include the College’s ~100 ha MacLeish Field Station with forest, field, and wetland habitats, a BSL-2 plant growth room, a storied Botanic garden and Herbarium, the Mill River/Paradise Pond ecosystem, spatial analysis and GIS labs, and centers for microscopy, molecular biology, proteomics, and aqueous biogeochemistry.  Programs in Biochemistry, Environmental Science and Policy, Statistical and Data Sciences, Neuroscience, and Landscape Studies facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration.
