OPEN RANK Pharmacology Faculty Position

College of Osteopathic Medicine

Touro University – California

Touro University – California, the oldest osteopathic school in the Touro College system, located on historic Mare Island in the northern San Francisco Bay area, is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, OPEN RANK faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to provide pharmacology content in the Department of Basic Sciences (http://com.tu.edu/). Applicants must have a terminal degree (Ph.D., D.O., M.D. or dual degree, or equivalent). We are seeking a scientist or clinician with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching medical pharmacology to students in their pre-clinical years of medical education, as this is the primary responsibility for the position. Additional experience in teaching pre-clinical pathology is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will advance the educational mission within the Department of Basic Science and interdisciplinary educational initiatives in the College of Osteopathic Medicine and will contribute to a talented team of colleagues to deliver basic science education in the DO and MSMHS programs in large and small group classrooms and laboratory sessions while also contributing to the design and evolution of our team-based learning education curriculum in the DO program.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: are those work assignments which are predominant, regular and recurring.

Participate in the planning of the curriculum
Prepare and deliver lectures or laboratory lessons on assigned topics
Assess student performance through appropriate examination methods
Facilitate student learning through provision of office hours
Promote an appropriate atmosphere for student education and be responsive to student needs
Serve committees (community, university, college and basic science directed); assume a fair share of assignments in chairing committees
Design and execute original scholarly/research studies in an ethical manner
Seek research funding through grants, contracts, or other award
Present research findings at scientific meetings or other relevant forums
Provide reports, budgetary information, and other documents, as requested by Department Chairs, Directors, and Deans
Advise and mentor students
Participate in medical student admission interviews
Engage collaboratively with course coordinators and other members of the faculty
Additional tasks may be assigned by the Chair of the Basic Science department as needed.
