Assistant Professor - Plant Systems Biology

The Department of Cell & Systems Biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of plant systems biology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an expected start date of July 1, 2021.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field (e.g., Systems Biology, Synthetic Biology, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Developmental Biology, Genome Biology, Genetics, Plant Biology, etc.), with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests in host plant-parasitic plant interactions complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths in the areas of plant-microbe interactions, plant and microbial biology, chemical genomics and systems biology. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive and externally funded research program.

Evidence of excellence in research will be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, evidence of peer-reviewed research funding, trainee mentorship, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing. 

In addition, we expect a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier including a teaching statement, sample course materials and course evaluations submitted as part of the application as well as strong endorsements from referees of high international stature. Last, we expect efforts to promote diversity within the teaching and laboratory environment.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
