Postdoctoral Fellowship Position in Neurodegeneration

NIH funded postdoctoral position available to study the biology of neurodegeneration. The broad goals of this project are to study mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of genetic neurological disorders with a view to seek out avenues for therapy.

We use an array of techniques from cell biology and biochemistry to bioinformatics and mouse genetics to understand the molecular basis of neuronal dysfunction. Our work utilizing multiple techniques to study different neurological diseases is highlighted in some of our recent publications on genetic ataxias and other degenerative conditions (Cvetanovic M, et al. Nature Medicine, 2011; Israeli E, et al. HMG, 2016; Edamakanti CR, et al. JCI, 2018; Frederick NM, et al. HMG, 2018; Hu YS, et al. Brain, 2019).

The applicant will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory in a stimulating intellectual and collaborative environment provided by the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program and the Davee Department of Neurology. The laboratory is located in the downtown Chicago campus of Northwestern University, just off the “Magnificent Mile”.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who thrive on intellectual challenges. Applicants must have a PhD or MD degree and a strong background in biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology. Familiarity with in any of the following areas a plus: autophagy research, protein clearance and quality control pathways, cell biology of primary neurons and glia in culture, live cell imaging, the cell biology of lysosomes, mitochondria or the cytoskeleton, RNAi and CRISPR based knock-down of proteins using viral vectors, RNA-Seq, protein biochemistry and cell-signaling, iPS technology, epigenetics, and large scale proteomic approaches based on mass-spec identification of proteins.

Please submit a C.V., a brief statement of research interests and background, and the names of three references (preferably by email) to the address below:
