Faculty Opportunity at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

The Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases (IID) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant or associate professor. The academic rank will be determined in accordance with the successful candidate’s experience and productivity. IID faculty research is primarily focused on the study of globally important viral, bacterial and parasitic pathogens. The successful applicant will hold a doctoral degree and will have demonstrated significant commitment to an area of viral pathogenesis.

Candidates should be enthusiastic about teaching, training, and mentorship through our graduate programs.  We welcome candidates who are interested in mentoring diverse students and teaching in laboratory and classroom settings that foster belonging. Candidates should also have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with other scientists. 

Generous start-up packages and state-of-the-art research facilities will be available. IID has particular interest in recruiting individuals with research programs in the following areas:

• Mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and/or immune control in the setting of viral infection, particularly coronavirus infection but also including other viruses with epidemic potential such as influenza and arboviruses
• Vaccine development for coronaviruses but also including other viruses with epidemic potential such as influenza or arboviruses
• Multi-scaled approaches to the study of epidemic virus infection that incorporate mechanistic studies and human cohort or clinical studies
• Genomic, systems biology/chemical biology approaches, applied at a mechanistic level, to viruses with epidemic potential

The Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases offers a supportive and vibrant scientific community that values building a diverse faculty body. The department chair is committed to junior faculty success and will work closely with the successful candidate to develop a mentorship plan.  In addition, a new grant concierge program has been launched at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and is designed to streamline and enhance the support given to incoming faculty members as they prepare for their first grant submissions. The guidance and resources provided through the program will enable faculty to think strategically about building their research portfolios and empower them to succeed as members of the Harvard Chan research community. The HOME Grant Concierge Program integrates the efforts of the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA), the Office of Research Strategy and Development (ORSD) and Research Administration (RA) with those of mentors and academic departments to provide an individualized research development support system for each new faculty member.
