Postdoctoral position in the Center for Vision Research (CVR) –

Autophagic Dysfunction in Exfoliation Glaucoma. In Exfoliation Glaucoma (XFG), the eye accumulates protein aggregates, making it a severe form of glaucoma. We aim to 1) interrogate the basic mechanisms leading to protein aggregate formation, autophagic defects, and expulsion from cells; 2) elucidate protein folding defects in vitro and in vivo and; 3) perform drug screening on patient-derived cells to reverse XFG pathology.

Required Qualifications: We are seeking highly motivated and creative individuals with a PhD in Biological Sciences with experience in microscopy, molecular biology, and mouse models. Expertise in vision science is not required. If contacted, references will be requested.

The CVR is the research arm of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, comprising a large group of funded faculty members with joint appointments in Cell, Molecular, and Neuroscience Departments, leading vigorous basic and translational projects in a new state of the art facility. Programs span multiple disciplines, including developmental biology, retinal physiology, cell biology, biophysics, neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, matrix biology, and tissue engineering. Postdocs will receive broad training in multidisciplinary biomedical research and career mentorship.
