The Department of Plant Biology is seeking applications for the position of Staff Associate. The Staff Associate is a five-year position (equivalent level to Assistant Professor) intended to support exceptional scientists to start independent research programs at early career stages, ideally within one year after getting their Ph.D. degree. We are broadly interested in early career scientists who show great potential for developing a rigorous and creative research program that studies molecular genetic mechanisms in any photosynthetic organisms ranging from photosynthetic microbes to higher plants. The successful candidate is expected to lead an independent research group and interact synergistically with current department faculty members. Current research programs of the department study broad biological questions (related to metabolism, growth, development, and environmental adaptation) using a wide variety of systems (cyanobacteria, unicellular algae, Arabidopsis, maize, and native plants) and research approaches (biochemical, genetic, genomic, proteomic, cellular microscopy, and computational). To learn more about the Department of Plant Biology, please visit https://dpb.carnegiescience.edu/

A Ph.D. in science is required. Postdoctoral experience is not required. To apply, please submit a Cover Letter, CV, Description of Research Accomplishments and Future Research Plans, and Statement on Diversity Inclusion and Equity, all in one PDF file, and contact information of three references, online at: https://jobs.carnegiescience.edu/jobs/apply/59525/. For additional queries, please email: sacis@carnegiescience.edu. Review of applications will start on October 1, 2020, but the position will remain open until filled.

Additional information: The Department of Plant Biology of Carnegie Institution is located on the campus of Stanford University. Formerly known as the Carnegie Institution of Washington, the Carnegie Institution for Science is a U.S.-based non-profit, privately endowed, research institution. Andrew Carnegie founded the Carnegie Institution of Washington in 1902 as a scientific research organization to serve as a home to exceptional individuals capable of working at the cutting edge of their fields. Carnegie investigators are leaders in the fields of plant biology, developmental biology, earth and planetary sciences, astronomy, and global ecology. The Department of Plant Biology has state-of-the-art facilities for microscopy/imaging and mass spectrometry, laboratory facilities for molecular genetic studies of plants, growth facilities for photosynthetic microbes and higher plants, field experimental stations, and high-performance computing nodes.

Carnegie is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will receive consideration of employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, veteran status or any other characteristics protected by law.
