Molecular Immunology Section (MIS), Laboratory of Immunology, NEI

The National Eye Institute (NEI), Intramural Research Program (IRP), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting for a Staff Scientist in the Molecular Immunology Section (MIS), Laboratory of Immunology (LI) in Bethesda, Maryland. The MIS conducts basic and translational research that will result in better understanding and clinical amelioration of sight-threatening ocular inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Staff Scientist will be responsible for designing and conducting research in three major areas pertaining to understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate host immunity in the eye and central nervous system (CNS). Particular emphasis is on: (i) mechanisms that regulate lymphocyte development and cell-fate decisions; (ii) identifying and characterizing lymphocyte subsets that mediate or suppress CNS autoimmune diseases; (iii) Developing Biologics and cell-based therapies for CNS inflammatory diseases, such as Uveitis, Multiple Sclerosis and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

The incumbent will have a major role in assisting the Section Chief in project management, training postdoctoral fellows and postbaccalaureate students and preparing data for publication. Excellent written and oral (English) communication skills are required.

The successful individual must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience. The individual should also have expertise in multi-dimensional flow cytometry, especially in the analysis of primary human and mouse immune cells. Proficiency in next generation sequencing techniques such as RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq, ChIP-Seq and Chromosome conformation capture (3-C, Hi-C) is highly desirable.

Salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments.
