Post Doctoral Fellow - DNA Repair and Precision Medicine

Employer
Jefferson Health
Location
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (US)
Salary
.
Closing date
Oct 26, 2020

A Postdoctoral Fellowship opportunity is available in the laboratory of Dr. Richard T. Pomerantz starting in September or October 2020. The primary project involves the development and characterization of novel drug-like compounds as precision medicine for cancers mutated in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 tumor suppressor genes, or other genes involved in the DNA damage response. Current drug development programs are designed to inhibit the DNA damage response and cause replicative stress which cause synthetic lethality in BRCA1/2 mutated cells, but spare normal cells. The ultimate goal is to characterize the cellular mechanism of action of leading compounds developed by collaborating medicinal chemists, and advance drug leads towards testing in mouse models. The project is supported by a wide range of collaborators, including biochemists, structural biologists, medicinal chemists and cancer biologists.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in cell biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is required.
  • Evidence of productivity reflected by first author publications in peer-reviewed journals is essential.
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture, clonogenic survival assays, and basic molecular biology techniques is essential.
  • Experience in proteomics and genomics is preferred.
  • Ability to design and execute cell biology experiments, critically interpret experimental results, and present data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to participate in the preparation of scientific publications.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
