POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Margaret A. Phillips, Ph.D. in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Our laboratory https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/labs/phillips/ focuses on drug discovery and biochemistry of protozoal pathogens including those that cause malaria and Human African trypanosomiasis. We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to support a malaria drug discovery project. We have identified new small molecule scaffolds with potent and selective anti-malarial activity that are providing the basis for target identification and lead optimization programs within our lab and that of our chemistry collaborator.

Our objective is to identify the biochemical target of these compounds and to support identification of a lead compound with the potential to advance for the treatment of malaria.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology or cell biology and an excellent publication record. Experience working on Plasmodium falciparum or on other protozoal parasites is highly desirable. We seek applicants who are highly motivated and are able to design and conduct experiments, prepare and present research at conferences, and write and edit manuscripts and grants. You will join a collaborative, multi-disciplinary group of parasitologists and chemists who are highly supportive of each other’s efforts and career development.
