Metabolic and Bioenergetic Homeostasis By ‘Energetic’ Cellular Signals

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC

Position description:

A fully-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Inositol Signaling Group led by Dr. Stephen Shears at NIEHS. One of the group’s goals is to understand how metabolic and bioenergetic homeostasis is supervised by the ‘energetic’ inositol pyrophosphate cellular signals. This work has particular relevance to metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, cancer biology, and bone remodeling. We are especially interested in recruiting an individual who is interested in taking advantage of our having recently generated novel knockin animal models, to improve insight into the functions of inositol pyrophosphates in various metabolic disease models. Our group is part of the Signal Transduction Laboratory at NIEHS, which benefits from outstanding funding, and state-of-the art equipment that include ready access to excellent core facilities; several other scientific institutes in the local area amplify the collegial research environment.

For our recent publications, and for links to more information about our group, see:

https://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/stl/pi/inositol/publications/index.cfm

Qualifications:

Applicants must be very close to obtaining or have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with < 5 years of postdoctoral training. The preferred candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills, a strong work ethic, and must be the first author of at least one peer-reviewed publication. Preference will also be given to candidates who have studied in the field of signal transduction, and have experience in the use of mouse models, and the various tools of molecular- and cellular-biology.

To Apply:

Please email a CV, which should include contact information for three referees, to shears@niehs.nih.gov.
