The Environmental Studies Program at Dartmouth seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the field of Ecosystem Science and Global Change. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in ecosystem science and its applications. In addition, the ideal candidate will take an interdisciplinary approach that links ecosystem studies with existing program strengths in the environmental social sciences.

We seek a colleague whose research and classroom teaching employ field- and lab-based methodologies. Complementary modeling or other quantitative techniques (e.g. remote sensing, data analytical approaches) are also welcomed.

Many areas of research are appropriate, particularly those that complement our existing program and institution strengths. Examples include, the biogeochemistry of terrestrial or aquatic ecosystems, forest and Arctic and polar ecosystems, climate change and carbon cycling, biodiversity and ecosystem function and services, and agroecology. Faculty in environmental studies seek to produce policy-relevant research that address local to global scale challenges.

Faculty in Environmental Studies participate in Dartmouth's Ph.D. program in Ecology, Evolution, Environment and Society through advising and teaching. Teaching opportunities at the undergraduate level include courses in the broad area of environmental science and global change from introductory to advanced levels, tailored to the candidate’s research interests.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in ecosystem science, ecosystem ecology, environmental science, global change biology, or a related field is required. Applicants may be ABD but must have a Ph.D. by the appointment start date. Candidates who demonstrate a capacity to connect their work to the social sciences and policy are especially encouraged.
