Faculty Position

We are seeking highly accomplished research scientists to join The Wistar Institute faculty (Assistant, Associate and full Professor ranks) in the broad areas of Immunology and Immunotherapy. The successful candidate(s) will be jointly appointed in the Immunology, Microenvironment and Metastasis (IMM) Program of the “EXCEPTIONALLY”-rated NCI-designated Wistar Institute Cancer Center as well as the Wistar Institute Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center (VIC) in Philadelphia.  Candidates are expected to have established extramurally-funded research programs that complement the existing strengths in cancer immunology, immunotherapy, infectious diseases and vaccine development within the IMM program, the VIC and across The Wistar Institute.  We are particularly interested in candidates with research programs that can bridge and integrate areas in cancer immunology, cancer microenvironment, and immunotherapy in IMM and VIC.  The new recruitments represent an exciting opportunity to forge value-added, collaborative programmatic efforts in the uniquely intellectually-stimulating environment of The Wistar Institute-University of Pennsylvania campus.  The Wistar Institute has an established history of highly innovative advances in cancer and infectious disease most recently including a leading vaccine effort on the current COVID-19 pandemic. Search committee will be jointly chaired by Profs. Rugang Zhang (IMM) and Luis J. Montaner (VIC, IMM, Vice Pres. Wistar).

Candidates with strong research accomplishments, publication record, and proven track record of NIH funding acquisition are encouraged to apply.

The Wistar Institute is the nation’s first independent biomedical research Institute with long-standing NCI Cancer Center designation. It has a strong technology transfer focus in biomedical research and ranks fifth in the nation for royalties from intellectual property. The Wistar Institute offers highly competitive start-up support, salary and fringe benefits in addition to an outstanding and interactive research environment. Faculty will be recruited to space in a newly-renovated research space with a state-of-the-art vivarium and outstanding core facilities including Genomics, Proteomics and Metabolomics, Imaging, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Screening & Protein Expression, Bioinformatics, and Biomedical Research Support, and support for Medicinal Chemistry. The Institute’s location adjacent to the campuses of the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and the University of the Sciences provides for vigorous academic and clinical collaborations, as well as attractive training opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Applications will be reviewed as received and will be accepted until the position is filled. To ensure timely consideration during the current recruitment cycle, applicants should submit applications before November 15, 2020. The application should include: a curriculum vitae, a brief summary of past and future research interests (no more than 3 pages), and history of research funding support (if applicable). Applications should be sent in a single PDF by e-mail to: Maria Colelli, Faculty Search Coordinator (colelli@wistar.org), The Wistar Institute, 3601 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
