PROGRAM IN MOLECULAR MEDICINE

UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS MEDICAL SCHOOL

The Program in Molecular Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School seeks an outstanding individual for a faculty position to provide bioinformatics support and collaboration to its faculty research laboratories.  While this will be a non-tenure track faculty appointment, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to advance through the academic ranks.

The Program consists of basic scientists and physician scientists representing a broad range of disciplines in the biomedical sciences, and operates as an academic department in the Medical School (http://umassmed.edu/pmm/).  The Program occupies a modern research building of approximately 80,000 square feet on an expanding Medical School campus.

We are seeking an energetic and highly collaborative individual who will work closely with scientists, graduate students, and postdocs to understand the research problem and data analysis requirements, and to build automated pipelines and workflows that utilize cutting edge bioinformatics analysis tools. The candidate will also prototype and deploy algorithms for large-scale data analysis, such as that generated from deep sequencing, and build customized workflows and translate prototype tools into more mature tools suitable for wider usage or release to the scientific community. The individual is encouraged to contribute to and coauthor manuscripts and research publications.

Candidates for the position should have a PhD and at least three years of professional experience in the application of bioinformatics to biomedical research. Successful applicants should have substantial experience with data management, integration, and analysis using Linux/UNIX/Mac OS X platforms, a strong background in software development using a wide variety of programming languages such as Java, C++, Perl, Python, R, and Nextflow and strong ability to build and adapt user-friendly interfaces for querying and mining genomic, proteomics, and other biomedical databases. In addition, competitive applicants should have excellent communication skills to collaborate with researchers and summarize results via written and oral communications.

Applicants should submit a cover letter explaining their qualifications and their interest in this position, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information for three individuals who could provide letters of recommendation to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/16634 .

Inquiries, but not application materials, may be directed to the Chair of the Program in Molecular Medicine, Dr. Roger J. Davis (roger.davis@umassmed.edu).

This position will remain open until a candidate is hired.

UMass Medical School is committed to being an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and recognizes the power of a diverse community. We encourage applications from protected veterans, individuals with disabilities and those with varied experiences, perspectives and backgrounds to consider UMass Medical School as their employer of choice.
