Chemistry Group Leader - Center for Protein Degradation

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Deerfield Management have entered a multi-year collaboration to create the Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) at DFCI led by Drs. Fischer and Gray.  The goals of the Center for Protein Degradation are to create a next-generation protein degrader platform and interrogate and advance a large portfolio of protein degrader targets.   This is an exceptional opportunity to join a newly founded research center that is pushing the boundaries of targeted protein degradation research and accelerating the translation of basic science into clinical solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead medicinal chemistry at the Center for Protein Degradation in the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
  • Responsible for managing the CPD chemistry team and external CRO synthesis
  • Play a key role in shaping the scientific strategy of the center, working closely with the Director and other discipline group leaders.
  • Work with the Portfolio Manager and Financial Manager to ensure operational activities align with portfolio needs to expedite project delivery.
  • Drive a culture of urgency and scientific excellence with a focus on therapeutic impact.
  • Present and publish CPD innovations externally.

 

Qualifications:

  • PhD in chemistry required and ideally 5+ years of pharma/biotech medicinal chemistry experience preferred
  • Exceptional scientific background with a track record of delivery – able to provide sophisticated solutions to complex problems
  • Expert in applying medicinal chemistry techniques and analyses to advance molecular design
  • Experience of structure-based drug design
  • Strong management skills – effectively manages the performance of the team, and their development, to maximize team impact
  • Drives change, challenges dogma, thrives in ambiguous situations
  • Collaborative mindset – capable of working with all stakeholders and project teams to ensure portfolio progresses
  • Excellent presentation skills
