Postdoctoral Fellow

The Schoborg Lab (www.schoborglab.org) in the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Wyoming is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. The successful candidate will work on NIH-funded research projects aimed at understanding the genetic basis of disease, using the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as a model system. We employ techniques spanning molecular biology, cellular and developmental biology, biochemistry, and high-resolution light and X-Ray microscopy.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a research program that complements existing projects in the lab or establishes independent ones. Responsibilities include planning and performing experiments in a properly controlled and ethical manner, analyzing data, and communicating results clearly and concisely through both oral and written means. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: genetic manipulation of Drosophila (CRISPR/Cas-9), high resolution fixed and live cell imaging, microcomputed tomography (micro-CT), -omics, image analysis (machine learning) and biochemical analysis. Candidates will also be expected to write manuscripts, present research findings at national meetings, as well as supervise and train other lab members.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree by the time of hire in genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, biochemistry or other closely related fields. Experience working with Drosophila or other model organisms is preferred, along with expertise in light microscopy and/or -omics approaches. Proficiency in biology-relevant programming languages are also a plus.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter describing your previous experience and interest in the position, C.V., and contact information for three academic references to Dr. Todd Schoborg (todd.schoborg@uwyo.edu).  Only complete applications will be considered.

The University of Wyoming is located on the high plains in Laramie, WY at the doorstep of the Rocky Mountains. As the only University in the state, Wyoming benefits from significant investment in academics and research infrastructure. Laramie is an active community of ~30,000 with a cohesive, college town feel. With access to world class outdoor recreation activities minutes from campus and driving distance to the larger metropolitan areas of Boulder, Denver, and Ft. Collins, Laramie sets a high bar for quality of life.
