Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development La Jolla, has an open position for a talented and high-performing biophysical research scientist in the Structural Biology and Protein Sciences (SBPS) Group within the Department of Oncology Medicinal Chemistry.  Candidates who have demonstrated an ability to perform innovative and high-quality research, working both independently, and as part of teams are encouraged to apply.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will contribute to a core biophysics SBPS team, collaborating with colleagues across the SBPS group as a resource in multi-disciplinary drug discovery team settings, contributing to robust and timely problem solving and decision-making.  The successful candidate will demonstrate significant expertise applying in-depth biophysical characterization of protein targets intended for X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM and biochemical assays to support SBDD platforms and impacting projects at a strategic level. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
•    PhD and postdoctoral experience in Protein Biophysics, Biochemistry or a closely related field.
•    Extensive biophysics background, with demonstrated expertise in biophysical characterization of proteins and macromolecular complexes (fluorescence spectroscopy, SEC-MALS, DLS/SLS, Mass Photometry, SAXS).  
•    Expertise in analysis (data acquisition and interpretation) of protein interactions (small molecule, protein and nucleic acid) (ITC, SPR, MST, FP), and associated thermodynamic and kinetics parameters.
•    Ability to develop and integrate impactful and cutting-edge protein biophysical methods to strengthen and further build on current capabilities within SBPS. 
•    Responsible to train colleagues, ensure operation of existing biophysics instrumentation, and help drive the identification and utilization of emerging technologies to strengthen and build on current capabilities within SBPS.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Excellent interpersonal skills which facilitate knowledge sharing and scientific discussions
•    Outstanding publication record reflecting scientific drive and creativity across multiple disciplines of modern structural biology and protein sciences
•    Ability to quickly and effectively operate, communicate and influence decision making within cross-functional and multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Understanding of NMR, mass spectrometry and biochemical analysis/enzyme assays would be beneficial.
•    Experience with weak affinity ligands (fragments) and covalent inhibitors.
