The position can begin immediately and the contract will be limited till 31.12.2022 at 50%.

The Center for Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS) is a German-Polish research center for data-intensive digital systems research. We combine innovative methods from mathematics, theoretical systems research, simulations, data science, and computer science to provide solutions for a range of disciplines - materials science under ambient and extreme conditions, earth system research, systems biology, and autonomous vehicles.

CASUS was jointly founded in August 2019 by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, the Technical University of Dresden and the University of Wroclaw. CASUS is located in the heart of Görlitz at the border between Germany and Poland. The CASUS start-up phase is hosted by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf and is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Saxon State Ministry of Science and Art.

The Earth System Science department seeks a project manager to coordinate internal activities, collaborations with partners, and interactions with stakeholders on a project focusing on developing data, models, algorithms, and software for optimizing the use of limited SARS-CoV-2 testing capacity.

Job Background and Scope:
The scientific project coordinator will be part of a team studying how to optimally deploy limited testing capacity in an emerging epidemic. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating activities across team members in the areas of data fusion, epidemiological modeling, algorithm development. and software development. Importantly, the team must be synchronized to produce near-term products that start simple and then are gradually expanded in scope, functionality, and refinement. The coordinator will also manage activities with project partners, both within Germany and internationally, and will facilitate interactions with public health professionals and institutions in Germany.

Tasks:

• Synchronize activities across a multidisciplinary team to yield continuously updated results
• Coordinate with project partners
• Facilitate interaction with public health experts, agencies, and authorities
• Write progress reports and handle other project reporting duties
• Work with our team to facilitate a coordinated approach to optimizing testing locations and strategies

Requirements:

• PhD in the life or physical sciences
• Prior experience coordinating scientific projects
• Strong motivation to work in a collaborative environment
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Fluency in German to facilitate interaction with public health authorities and stakeholders in Saxony and elsewhere in Germany
• Experience in epidemiology and/or public health is advantageous but is not required
