Director- Vector Production Facility – Translational Core Labs

The Vector Production Facility (VPF), one group within the Translational Core Laboratory (TCL) at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) is in search of a new Director of Vector Production. Operational since 2005, the VPF is a cGMP-compliant cleanroom facility for the manufacturing of viral vectors in support of early phase clinical trials. Services include large-scale GMP lentiviral and retroviral vector and small to mid-scale manufactured products for feasibility and pilot projects.

The Director of the VPF will work with the TCL Director and TCL Director of Business Operations and is responsible for  the overall operations of the VPF facility, including 1) production of viral vectors, 2) development of new gene and cellular therapies in clinical trials, 3) contract negotiations and client management, 4) properly defining and managing clinical projects in accordance with contractual agreements, 5) ensuring appropriate training and proper clean room utilization of the Aseptic Processing Laboratories in the application of GMP manufacturing, and 6) maintaining compliance with all applicable  guidelines and regulations.

This is a non-tenured faculty position in the Service Track of the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Experimental Hematology  at CCHMC  The position rank is commensurate with experience.    Appointment is contingent on approval by the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.[JK1] The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in a biological science (preferably with a molecular biology background) and at least 3 years of related experience with GMP production (vector production, gene transfer, cell therapy and cleanroom operations), in addition to at least 5 years’ related management experience. Knowledge of process and equipment validation, virology, tissue and cell culture, as well as experience in project management in a fee-for-service translational science setting and demonstrated capacity to be a co-investigator in federally funded projects are significant assets.
