Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated computational postdoctoral fellow to lead a pharmacogenomic project. The goal of the project is to identify novel biomarkers and mechanistic insights into differential tumor responses to therapeutic agents. The primary resource for this project is preclinical testing data consisting of >70 therapeutic agents and a large number of childhood cancer Patient Derived Xenograft (PDX) models. The candidate will work closely with the PI (Dr. Siyuan Zheng) and a group of talented colleagues. The project will also involve wet lab collaborators (Dr. Peter Houghton) who can provide support for functional assays and validations.

Candidates with proper training background but different research interests are also encouraged to inquire with the PI. Our lab has broad interest and expertise in cancer genomics, bioinformatics, and computational biology. We welcome talented scientists to join us and work together on making exciting discoveries.

Our lab is located at the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI, the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. This state-of-the-art 100,000 sq. ft. building is the largest free-standing childhood cancer research facility in Texas, and is home to the genome sequencing facility, siRNA/CRISPR screening facility, bioinformatics core, and 17 research labs. GCCRI has outstanding expertise in childhood cancer and is recognized nationally and internationally for its high-quality basic science and translational research.

The postdoc candidate is expected to independently lead the project and has regular discussions with the PI. Minimum requirements include a PhD or an equivalent degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics or a related discipline and a first author publication in a peer reviewed scientific journal. The candidate is expected to feel comfortable working in the Linux environment and has proficient use of at least one programing language such as R, Python, Java, or Perl. Candidates with working experience in DNA and RNA sequencing data, including single cell sequencing, are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter describing past research experience/skills and future research interests/plans, a curriculum vitae and the contact information of three references to Dr. Siyuan Zheng (zhengs3@uthscsa.edu).  More information about our lab can be found at http://zhenglab.info.
