The Biology Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the areas of ecosystem ecology, conservation, and/or evolutionary biology, with a particular emphasis on plants, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2021. Ph.D. and teaching experience required; post-doctoral research preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The successful applicant will teach a lab course in one of the three areas listed above, a course in a related sub-discipline that complements the department curriculum, participate in our introductory biology program, and supervise senior thesis research. In particular, we are seeking candidates who will contribute to our college's interdisciplinary program in Environmental Studies and who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. An ongoing research program involving undergraduates is expected. Research support includes start-up funds, a research laboratory, a greenhouse, annual conference travel, a generous sabbatical leave program, and departmental facilities for tissue culture and imaging with confocal and scanning electron microscopes in the modern Taylor Science Center.

Please include a statement in your cover letter that addresses the ways in which you would further the College’s goal of building a diverse educational environment. Previous experience teaching or working with diverse student populations is an asset. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year. Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a one-page teaching statement, a two-page research statement, and contact information for three references via Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/77647. Questions may be directed to Wei-Jen Chang, Chair, Biology Department, Hamilton College, 198 College Hill Road, Clinton, NY 13323-1292 (wchang@hamilton.edu). Review of application materials will begin October 2, 2020, and continue until the position is filled.
