Assistant / Associate / or Full Professor of Empire Innovation, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences

University at Buffalo, SUNY

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, with funding from the Empire Innovation Program of The State University of New York, seeks a leading scientist for appointment as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Empire Innovation. Scientists with expertise in the development and evaluation of novel biologically-based therapeutics and biologically-inspired drug delivery systems are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (http://pharmaceuticalsciences.buffalo.edu) is strongly research-oriented, with 20 faculty members from diverse scientific disciplines who share common interests in discovering, developing and optimizing drug therapies. Our research and graduate education programs span diverse aspects of small molecule and protein drug discovery and development through multi-disciplinary research in experimental therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, mathematical modeling, drug delivery, drug metabolism and transport, pharmacogenomics, systems pharmacology, and drug analysis.

We seek faculty members at all levels, from assistant to full professors, and more experienced candidates should demonstrate an established record of excellence in scholarly activity, particularly peer-reviewed extramurally-funded research, and interest in interacting with other academic and research programs. Successful junior candidates must have a PhD or other doctoral degree in pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical sciences, or engineering and have completed postdoctoral training in a relevant field. Building on the department strengths in protein therapeutics, the University at Buffalo is investing in the growth of faculty expertise in the development of biologically-based therapeutics and drug delivery systems. This area, which falls within the domain of translational biomedical research, includes development of new treatments of human disease that employ biologically-inspired delivery systems including exosomes, bacteriophages, viruses, engineered cells (e.g., chimeric antigen receptor [CAR] T-cell therapy), and biological constructs (e.g., antibody-drug conjugates).

Available resources include state of the art computational and bioanalytical facilities, ample laboratory space, and access to resources of the University’s Academic Health Center, which includes Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health and Health Professions, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The Department is part of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, which was founded in 1886 and is accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education. The University at Buffalo is the State University of New York's largest and most comprehensive research-intensive university, and is its primary center for professional education and training, as well as a member of the Association of American Universities. The University at Buffalo is a member of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), a consortium of the region’s leading health care, research, and medical education institutions. The BNMC is dedicated to the development of world-class medical environment for clinical care, research, education, and entrepreneurship.

Buffalo is the second-largest city in New York State and is located in the western region on the shores of Lake Erie, upriver of the majestic Niagara Falls.
