Cryo-EM Postdoctoral Position at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases, UCSF

Postdoctoral positions in cryo-EM are available in the Southworth Lab at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND), University of California, San Francisco. Research projects involve interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts across the Dan Southworth, David Agard and Stanley Prusiner labs, supported by an NIH Program Project grant to study the structural basis of amyloid/prion propagation in neurodegenerative diseases. Project focus areas include:

  • Development of cryo-EM affinity-grid technologies for structure determination of amyloid filaments.
  • Determining the structural basis of tau, Abeta and synuclein prion propagation.
  • Characterization of filament ultrastructure in cells by CLEM and FIB-SEM tomography.

The IND cryo-EM resources at the UCSF Mission Bay campus include a Titan Krios with phase plate, energy filter and Gatan K3, a 200 keV Glacios with a Gatan K2, and a Talos L120C. As a part of UCSF Center for Advanced Cryo-EM, additional state-of-the-art cryo-EM resources are available including a Titan Krios, Glacios and Talos Arctica as well as a FIB-SEM facility scheduled to be operational later this year. The appointee will be a part of a world-renowned research and training environment at UCSF with opportunities to present work and interact routinely with IND investigators and cryo-EM community across UCSF and the Bay Area.

The qualified candidate should have a PhD with expertise in biochemistry and structural biology including cryo-EM and/or crystallography. Interested applicants should contact Dr. Southworth and provide a brief cover letter, a CV, and contact info for 3 references.
