With a generous support from the Guangzhou City Government and the Guangdong Provincial Government, Guangzhou Regenerative Medicine and Health-Guangdong Laboratory ( Bioisland Laboratory, BIL ) was launched in 2017. BIL aims to bring together multiple leading scientific research units from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and well-known international research institutes to achieve the vital goal of “Healthy China” and to cooperatively tackle the scientific and technical problems and challenges. BIL is focused on research areas including basic and translational cutting-edge scientific research of stem cell and regenerative medicine, preclinical research and clinical application.

Max-Planck Center for Tissue Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine is a joint research center by BIL and Max Planck-GIBH Joint Center, located in the energetic city Guangzhou. The new research center will emphasize on tissue stem cells regeneration and transdifferentiation, organ development, regenerative medicine and disease models, bioengineering and organ reconstitution, in vivo imaging and bioinformatics. The center strives to become a prominent international scientific research place of tissue stem cells in the world. The center provides excellent R&D platform and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Equal opportunity and friendly academic environment will be ensured for all the researchers.

Dahai Zhu is a Senior Principal Investigator and Vice Director of Max-Planck Center for Tissue Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine, BIL. He is also a professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Peking Union Medical College, Beijing China. During his career, he has served on various Academic Committees, Editorial Board of Peer-reviewed Journals and received many honors and awards.

The current research interesting in Zhu’s group is focuses on studies of transcription factor-mediated 3D genome organization and muscle-secreted metabolites that regulate skeletal muscle stem cells’ functionality, such as activation of quiescent muscle stem cells, asymmetric division of self-renewal, differentiation in young and aging mice and human. The goal is to develop drugs for prevention or treatment of muscle-related human diseases, such as obesity and diabetes, muscular dystrophy, aging-caused sarcopenia and cancer.

Now we are recruiting Associate Scientist and Postdoctor. We invite highly motivated, committed and talented outstanding scientists to join our group in Guangzhou, China.
