Hear how our Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are working to end cancer.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center made up of a talented group of physicians, CRNAs, physician assistants and many others dedicated to providing the very best anesthesia and pain medicine care for our cancer patients. Our department members are dedicated to growing a truly academic department in all three areas of our academic mission: clinical care, research and education. We have nearly 74 faculty and 167 staff in the department working together to achieve our goals.

Our research program is flourishing under the leadership of Dr. Hui-Lin Pan, and our two major research programs—reducing the burden of cancer pain and improving anesthetic outcomes in our surgical patients—are making great headway in both funding and discovery. We introduced clinical and research fellowships in cancer anesthesia for interested physicians-in-training and added a second year of research training for selected pain medicine fellows over the last three years. It is our desire to mentor junior faculty in developing truly rewarding academic careers.

Our educational mission is expanding with a collaborative initiative to make anesthesiology residency training across the Texas Medical Center soundly integrated and unique in its depth of experience. Additionally, in association with affiliated institutions, we currently provide rich training experiences for SRNAs rotating with our anesthesiology team.
