The Korotkova laboratory at the University of Kentucky is recruiting post-doctoral fellows to study structure, biosynthesis and function of cell wall in pathogenic streptococci: Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus agalactiae. The laboratory has significant funding from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. These projects will utilize cutting-edge fluorescence and electron microscopy techniques, GC-MS and LC-MS analysis of cell wall components, advanced bacterial genetics, and structural/functional protein characteriztion.
The candidate should have a recent PhD degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related discipline and a proven publication record in international peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate should have practical knowledge of standard microbiological and molecular biological techniques (e.g. cloning, genetic manipulation of bacteria, protein expression and purification, western etc.). Expertise in one of the following areas would be advantageous: analysis of cell wall and peptidoglycan; carbohydrate composition analysis; fluorescent/SEM/TEM microscopy; biophysical analysis of protein-protein/polysaccharide interaction.
Salary will be at or above published guidelines of the National Institutes of Health, with travel funds available to attend national and international meetings. A multi-year commitment to postdoctoral training is expected.
Interested applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter including short description of research interests and future plans, and name/contact information of 3 references to nkorotkova@uky.edu.
