The NMR specialist position with responsibilities that include NMR facility maintenance and research associate functions will be available starting in August 2020 through the Department of Applied Science at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. The solid-state NMR facility houses two Bruker wide-bore superconducting magnets operating at field strengths of 17.6 T and 7.05 T. The instruments are fitted with magic angle and static solid-state NMR probes capable of temperature controlled (−100 °C to +100 °C) experiments. The state-of-the-art facility supports the interdisciplinary research of investigators in the Department of Applied Science. The NMR specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and service of the high-field facility. Duties include performing cryogen fills (liquid N2 and He), training internal and external users, optimizing and developing multidimensional solid-state NMR experiments for optimal applications in the biological and material sciences, and contributing technical expertise for crafting research and instrumentation grant proposals. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in collaborative research with the users of the facility.
