Postdoctoral Research position to study macrophage function in liver disease
A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the Weinman and Wozniak lab and Liver Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center to study macrophage and exosome biology in inflammatory liver disease. The work will build on recent findings from our lab identifying protective macrophage subpopulations in alcohol associated liver disease and novel mechanisms that control sequence-specific miRNA loading in myeloid cells. Future projects will use single cell transcriptome sequencing studies to identify macrophage subtypes, examine roles of apoptotic cell receptors in alcohol-induced inflammatory responses and use novel culture systems to understand the contribution of macrophage-hepatocyte crosstalk in adaptive and maladaptive effects on liver injury. The lab is located in the state of the art Hemenway Life Science Innovation center and is part of the KUMC Liver Center. The liver center consists of 34 investigators working on basic and clinical aspects of liver disease and interacts closely with large clinical programs in Hepatology and Liver transplantation. Our lab is adjacent to a number of other NIH-funded labs studying liver-related aspects of lipid metabolism, drug-induced tissue injury, autophagy, extracellular matrix biology, mitochondria function, viral hepatitis, liver carcinogenesis, regeneration and cell growth regulation. A description of our lab research interests can be found at Weinman Lab page. http://www.kumc.edu/school-of-medicine/internal-medicine/clinical-divisions/gastroenterology-hepatology-and-motility/faculty/steven-weinman/weinman-lab.html

Work will involve single cell-seq, animal models, cell co-culture techniques and translational studies in humans performed in conjunction with staff from the Liver Center. Candidates must have a recent PhD in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry or a related field with a record of creativity and scientific productivity. Experience with immunology, cell biology, single cell sequencing, flow cytometry or bioinformatics is desirable. Salary is commensurate with NIH postdoc scales.
