Clausthal University of Technology invites applications for the position of seven professorships in the field of Digital Transformation of the Circular Economy to begin as soon as possible.

Digital transformation is one of the greatest challenges facing science, economy, and society. It marks the transition from an industrial age defined by analog technologies to an age of knowledge and creativity shaped by digital technologies and digital innovations. Digitization offers the opportunity to anchor sustainability and the conservation of resources in the economy and society of tomorrow. Therefore, we want to research and develop the digital transformation of sustainable industrial processes in a transdisciplinary way at the Center for Digital Technologies (DIGIT) (https://www.digit-research.de/en). This digital transformation offers enormous opportunities, which we at Clausthal University of Technology want to actively shape and create together with you at the DIGIT research center.

Clausthal University of Technology is a research-focused university with outstanding national and international networking. The approximately 4,000 students and more than 1,200 employees enjoy short commutes, personal interaction, and the stimulating landscape of the Upper Harz region in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz Mountains. Clausthal University of Technology is the most significant economic factor and the largest employer in the region. We embody cultural diversity and internationalism. Here, science works closely with business and industry, bridging the gap between basic research and application in our strategic focus on the Circular Economy.

The Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering of the Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the Position of

University Professor (Salary Scale W2 NBesO) ”Industrial Internet of Things Communication Technology”
(m/f/d)

at the Institute of Electrical Information Technology as soon as possible.

The applicant is responsible for the organisation and further development of the teaching and research portfolio for communications engineering and high-frequency engineering, in particular for the study courses Electrical Engineering (B.Sc.) with consecutive study courses Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (M.Sc.) and Digital Technologies (B.Sc. and M.Sc.). The focus is on innovative communication technologies for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

The professorship will focus on innovative areas of communications engineering and high-frequency technology with a high potential for innovation and third-party funding. In particular, the following scientific expertise is expected:

•           communications engineering

•           high frequency technology

•           IIoT communication

In the following subject areas, the applicant should also be qualified in at least one subject:

•           radio networks and new 5G standard

•           secure signal transmission and other security aspects in the information transfer            process networks

•           optical communications technology and signal transmission

The main goal is to establish a research branch in IIoT communication that is strong in research and third-party funding.

Within the university, the professorship should actively contribute to the design of the research area Open Cyberphysical Systems and Simulation and thus strengthen the digitization-related research profile of engineering sciences and computer science. For the topic Industry 4.0 at TU Clausthal, the professorship will take over the topic Communication in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT Communication). For this purpose there are cooperation possibilities in the research centres of the TU Clausthal, especially in the Simulation Science Center Clausthal-Göttingen (SWZ) and Clausthal Research Center for Environmental Technologies (CUTEC). The professorship is expected to be a member of the Center for Digital Technologies (DIGIT). This includes in particular the participation in the bachelor, master and further education program of the joint study program Digital Technologies as well as the further development of this study program, which the Clausthal University of Technology and the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences offer in cooperation. In addition, the DIGIT and the associated digitalisation laboratories of silverLabs offer the opportunity to actively participate in research projects.

The requirements of the position are defined in Section 25 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG). In addition to a university degree in the fields of engineering and science, an excellent doctorate as well as a habilitation or comparable achievements are required.

Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded or corresponding industrial experience is expected.

The willingness to hold courses in German and English is a prerequisite. Strong commitment to teaching is expected.

The Clausthal University of Technology wishes to increase the number of its female faculty. Therefore, applications from female candidates are particularly welcome. Candidates with disabilities who are equally qualified will be given preference. Applications from international scientists are welcome; proficiency in the German language is desired for teaching and committee work.

A part-time professorship is possible upon request.

Applicants who are 50 years or older at the time the appointment commences and who do not hold already a permanent civil servant status (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit) will be employed with employee status (Angestelltenverhältnis).
