TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN NATURE-BASED CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

The Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the emerging field of nature-based climate solutions – tackling the challenge of climate change by protecting and better managing natural ecosystems.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in: i) coastal blue carbon science and conservation; ii) restoration of terrestrial, coastal and/or marine ecosystems; and iii) the use of innovative techniques and technologies for mapping and monitoring nature-based climate solutions. Candidates with excellent track records in other research areas related to conservation or climate science will also be considered.

Successful applicants will be appointed Principal Investigators at the Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions, a newly established university-level research centre jointly supported by the University and the National Research Foundation of the Singapore Prime Minister’s Office. The candidate is expected to develop a highly competitive research program and will have many opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Biological Sciences.

The Centre’s mission is to produce policy-relevant science on nature-based climate solutions to inform climate policies, strategies and actions in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre’s research focuses on five key programmes: i) understanding the impacts of climate change on human and natural systems; ii) quantifying the potential and limits of nature-based climate solutions; iii) identifying and overcoming technical, socioeconomic and other barriers to their implementation; iv) prioritising solutions for the greatest return on investment and outcomes; and v) leveraging technology to support climate research and actions.

Successful applicants will also join the Department of Biological Sciences as tenure track faculty members where they will contribute to teaching and service duties. The Department has over 60 full time faculty members with diverse research expertise and over 300 graduate students from 19 countries. Facilities and research support are world-class and the university (www.nus.edu.sg) and department (www.dbs.nus.edu.sg) are internationally highly regarded.

The University offers internationally competitive salary packages in Singapore’s low tax environment. The Department and Centre are committed to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty; female and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should have a PhD and postdoctoral experience in environmental science, conservation science, sustainability science, geography or related fields. They should have demonstrable, strong record and trajectory in research output, grant capture and teaching excellence.

Interested candidates should submit an application package comprising: a letter of interest, curriculum vitae with full publication list, research statement, teaching statement, and the names and contact details of at least five academic referees. Please send the application package to:
