The Department of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  We seek candidates with expertise in allergic airway disease with a focus on innate immunity or mucosal immunology, a very strong publication record with evidence of funding.

Teaching duties will include:

  • Teaching graduate-level immunology courses.
  • Serving as an academic advisor to graduate students and as a mentor to postdoctoral fellows.
  • Serving on academic committees at the Department, School, and University levels.
  • Facilitating a learning environment that encourages knowledge and development of skills.

Research duties will include:

  • Establishing a productive laboratory and performing cutting-edge research to elucidate the immunologic basis of allergic airway diseases and better understand how immunity in the airways shapes the response to environmental triggers such as allergens and air pollutants.
  • Applying expertise in molecular biology and immunologic techniques to perform studies on mouse and human cells and tissues that are involved in the biology of allergic airway diseases such as asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis.
  • Building on the existing strength of the Department faculty while building an independent research portfolio.
  • Documenting important findings and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Applying for external funding, writing successful grants, and obtaining independent funding for the laboratory.
  • Supervising Lab Manager and Postdoctoral Fellow.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

This position requires a doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Pathology, Immunology, or a related field.
