Assistant Professor, Cardiovascular Engineering

The Institute of Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering (https://ibbme.utoronto.ca) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of Cardiovascular Engineering. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate may also be eligible to be named The Ted Rogers Chair in Cardiovascular Engineering (details below). The expected start date is September 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will have an emerging reputation with internationally recognized scholarship and demonstrated excellence in research in cardiovascular engineering and science. Topic areas of particular interest include biointegrated electronics, wearables, point-of-care devices, and other biosensor technologies for clinical diagnosis and health monitoring, but all other research areas with relevance to translational cardiovascular engineering and biology will be considered. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering or another relevant field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Candidates must have a record of excellence in teaching and research, and a clearly demonstrated trajectory towards world-class scholarship.

Excellence in research will be determined by the quality of articles submitted in the application; output and impact of research or a research pipeline that is at high international levels; publications in top ranked, internationally recognized, and field relevant academic journals; presentations at significant conferences; awards and accolades; and strong endorsements by referees of high international stature. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and pursue an innovative, independent, and externally funded research program of the highest international calibre. Evidence for excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference and a teaching dossier to include a reflective teaching statement, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

Outstanding candidates with demonstrated research excellence relevant to heart failure and cardiovascular science will be considered for the Ted Rogers Chair in Cardiovascular Engineering within the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research (TRCHR) Translational Biology and Engineering Program. A track record of collaborative science, successful program building, research productivity and excellence, and effective leadership, demonstrated through the application materials, is essential. Through research and scholarly activities, the Chair holder will position the TRCHR as a global leader in knowledge and technology generation and translation in the areas of biology and engineering related to heart failure.

Candidates may be considered for cross-appointment in appropriate partner departments at UofT, which may include Physiology and others within the Faculties of Applied Science and Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Science, and the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
