We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with background in biomedical research to train in Dr. Muthu Periasamy’s lab https://med.ucf.edu/directory/muthu-periasamy-ph-d/. The research project focuses on skeletal muscle physiology and metabolism. Muscle being the largest organ plays a central role in whole body metabolism and obesity. We are currently investigating how futile cycling of SERCA pump (Ca2+ ion transport ATPase) is responsible for muscle thermogenesis and increased energy metabolism (Bal etal Nat.Med 2012, Maurya et al Cell Rep. 2018 (11):2919-293). A major area of interest is to understand the cross talk between Ca2+ cycling and mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics. The research fellow will be expected to work with mouse models and muscle cells to understand mitochondrial biology during high-energy demand and in metabolic disease conditions. Preference will be given to applicants who have strong background in animal models, muscle /mitochondrial biology, and metabolism. The candidate will be encouraged to work independently and become highly proficient in manuscript/grant-writing. There is also opportunity to be promoted in to an independent position upon successful extramural funding.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Requires a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical sciences
- Candidates who have research experience in animal models , muscle biology /physiology would be preferred
- Ideal candidate must be motivated, has excellent written/oral communication skills, a strong desire and ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Interested candidates should apply with full CV, statement of research interests, and list of references to Muthu.Periasamy@ucf.edu
