The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS)/School of Marine Science of William & Mary invites applications for a full-time tenure-eligible Associate/Full Professor. The position will begin in Fall 2020.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold an earned Doctorate (Ph.D.) or an equivalent degree in Marine or Biological Sciences or a related discipline. Candidates must have research interests and demonstrated experience in molluscan shellfish aquaculture. Individual interests could include, but are not limited to, commercial aquaculture methods, larval biology, aquaculture nutrition, aquaculture-environment interactions, aquaculture-society interactions, aquaculture health, genetics and breeding, and physiology. Candidates must have a strong scholarship record commensurate with experience, demonstrated potential to establish an active research program, demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, and strong communication skills. Responsibilities: VIMS is seeking to fill an endowed faculty position, the Acuff Professorship in Marine Science, within its Department of Fisheries Science with a nationally and internationally recognized scholar whose expertise will complement our existing strengths in shellfish aquaculture and provide strategic leadership in coordinating our institute-wide Shellfish Aquaculture Program. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally-funded research program, contribute to the development of an aquaculture curriculum, participate in advisory service and outreach related to aquaculture, and provide leadership in driving the continued development and sustainability of shellfish aquaculture in the region.

About the Virginia Institute of Marine Science: Chartered in 1940, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science is currently among the largest marine research and education centers in the United States. VIMS has a three-part mission to conduct interdisciplinary research in coastal ocean and estuarine science, educate students and citizens, and provide advisory service to policy makers, industry, and the public. The School of Marine Science at VIMS is the graduate school in marine science for William & Mary. VIMS currently employs 55 full-time faculty members and 256 staff, and has 90 graduate students in Master’s and Doctoral programs. There are four academic departments at VIMS: Aquatic Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Fisheries Science, and Physical Sciences.
