A position is open for a Post-doctorate Associate in the School of Plant Sciences under the direction of Drs. Monica Schmidt and Eliot Herman. The location is in the Keating (BIO5) building. Incumbents will be focusing on altering seed composition of soybean through both biotechnology and breeding approaches. The research goals work towards enhancing food/feed improvement in soybean and are currently being evaluated for potential deployment by industry. The approaches used will develop new strategies to enhance soybean seed composition.
Research objectives involve: 1. Seed composition analysis 2. Transcriptome, proteome and metabolome analysis 3. Isolation, quantification and analysis of RNA, DNA, protein from plant tissue 4. Sterile media preparation and aseptic tissue culture/transformation of plant material 5. General molecular biology methods, gene cloning and construct formation 6. Breeding experience, especially with soybean highly beneficial
Applicants must have a PhD in Life Science or related discipline.Minimum 2 years of experience in a molecular-biology-related laboratory using techniques as described in the position summary. Demonstrated experience in molecular biology techniques and extracting DNA/RNA/protein from plants. Documented experience in molecular biology techniques and plant engineering/breeding with soybean a benefit.
