Assistant Professor High throughput Imaging of Gene Regulation

University of California San Diego

The Department of Bioengineering and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego are dedicated to understanding the functions of individual cell types within complex tissue environments. Recent advances in imaging technologies and molecular biology have the potential to qualitatively advance these goals by linking cell-specific gene expression with precise anatomic location. This capability has numerous applications to fundamental questions in the fields of developmental biology, physiology, immunology and most human diseases that result in significant unmet medical needs. We invite applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position (Assistant Professor) jointly appointed across the Departments of Bioengineering and Cellular and Molecular Medicine. This initiative will leverage local strengths in bioengineering, physics, data science, genomics and basic science investigation of human disease.

The Department of Bioengineering, in the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, in the School of Medicine, are committed to building an excellent, diverse and inclusive faculty, staff and student body (http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/diversity/) . Candidates with experience with or willingness to engage in activities that contribute to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply. The School of Medicine is closely tied to the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and UC San Diego Health , which includes the UC San Diego Medical Center, Jacobs Medical Center, Moores Cancer Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, Shiley Eye Institute and many other centers, clinics and affiliates throughout Southern California.

A PhD (or advancement to candidacy) in bioengineering, physics, computer science, cell and molecular biology, or related disciplines is required for this position. The applicants must have expertise in bioengineering, cell/molecular biology, or microscopic imaging.

Candidates must have past research experience performing innovative, high throughput imaging approaches for study of cell type specific gene regulation and function.

Preferred candidates will have a combination of experience in 2 of the 3 areas of expertise such as bioengineering and cell/molecular biology or bioengineering and microscopic imaging, or cell/molecular biology and microscopic imaging.

Salary is based on published UC San Diego pay scales and competitive market conditions.
