Post-Doctoral Opportunity - Molecular Biology & Mechanistic Toxicology

A post-doctoral position is available for a multidisciplinary researcher experienced in molecular biology and mechanistic toxicology.  The 1 year position (extendible to 2 years depending on funding / performance) is located at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, MS, USA (https://www.erdc.usace.army.mil/).  Specifically, the Environmental Genomics and Systems Biology (EGSB) team (https://egsb.el.erdc.dren.mil/) within the Environmental Laboratory (https://www.erdc.usace.army.mil/Locations/EL/) is soliciting applications from individuals specializing in molecular biology, mechanistic toxicology, genetic engineering, and translational toxicology. Candidates are being recruited to contribute their expertise in a large, multi-year, multi-million dollar project that will bring together the expertise of a broad array of disciplines to determine the toxicological impacts of toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) from complex environmental exposures. 

In addition to conducting the funded research described above, candidates are encouraged to demonstrate promise for developing innovative new research ideas through contribution to grant writing to expand funded R&D efforts. Ph.D. graduates and/or candidates with all-but-dissertation (ABD) status are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who possess all or some of the following qualifications: (1) a Ph.D. in molecular biology / toxicology focused on cellular, metabolic, and/or physiological mechanisms; (2) experience in genetic modification (i.e. CRISPR and related methods) for gene-knock out / in assessment; (3) experience in ELISA, cell-free assays, in vitro assays, organoid assays, and various novel means of testing mechanisms of action (MOA) / molecular initiating events (MIE); and (4) experience with Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) research and development.  The selected candidate is expected to carry out research plans, be able to troubleshoot and adapt study methods when needed, present research findings to both experts and non-experts, and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals.

This position will be open to U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, and will be filled as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) postdoctoral fellow (http://orise.orau.gov/science-education/internships-scholarships-fellowships/postdocs.aspx). The salary range for this position is $58,535 - $77,082 and will be based on applicant experience.
