Post-Doctoral Position in Epithelial Cell/microRNA Biology
University of California, San Francisco
The Woodruff laboratory of the UCSF Airway Clinical Research Center is a translational Pulmonary laboratory that combines human studies of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) with the study of cell culture and mouse models of lung inflammation and mucus production. We seek a post-doctoral fellow to perform studies related microRNA regulation of airway epithelial mucin production.
Desirable experience: PhD in Cell or Molecular biology, Genetics, Immunology or a related biological field.
Position: The position is funded by a grant from the NIH/NHLBI (P01 HL107202), EXPLORING THE BIOLOGY OF PERSISTENT TYPE 2 AIRWAY NICHES IN ASTHMA). The proposed studies build upon preliminary data indicating that a family of microRNAs regulate airway epithelial mucin production that leads to clinically relevant airway dysfunction in asthma (and other respiratory diseases). The specific goal is to identify miRNA:target networks that control the cell reprogramming and mucin hypersecretion that marks airway type 2 niches in asthma. The project will involve significant collaboration with a multidisciplinary team (bench and clinical scientists from the Departments of Medicine and Immunology/Microbiology).
Experience/Qualifications:
- PhD in Cell or Molecular biology, Genetics, Immunology or a related biological field.
- Experience with primary cell culture, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, qPCR and histological staining preferred.
Motivated and broadly interested individuals willing to operate in a multidisciplinary environment on challenging scientific projects are welcome to apply. Contract will be initially for one year and is renewable yearly up to 5 years maximum. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
