The College of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center invites applications for a full-time 12-month tenure track faculty position in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Assistant Professor rank. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program and provide instruction to undergraduate (B.S.), professional (Pharm.D.) and graduate students (M.S., Ph.D.). Additional responsibilities include providing service to the College/University and broader scientific community and contributing to the vision, mission, and strategic plan of the College and the Department.

Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. or equivalent in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Toxicology, or a closely related discipline in biomedical or health sciences, a record of research productivity demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, and current authorization to work in the U.S. Preference will be given to applicants with evidence of an innovative research focus that builds on current programmatic strengths, particularly in the area of environmental health sciences/toxicology, drug delivery, or cancer; experience teaching and mentoring in a relevant academic environment; experience with extramural grant applications; strong record of publications; and evidence of leadership.

The UNM College of Pharmacy is part of the Health Sciences campus in the State’s largest health complex.  It ranks 29th among 143 US colleges of pharmacy in National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding. This position offers excellent opportunities for collaboration within large programmatic research areas, including the UNM Metal Exposure and Toxicity Assessment on Tribal Lands in the Southwest Superfund Research Program Center, and the UNM Community Environmental Health Program working with the Navajo Nation Communities on the health risks connected to mining.  Additional opportunities for collaboration exist with University investigators affiliated with the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the School of Medicine, the Clinical and Translational Sciences Center, and the Center for Biomedical Engineering, as well as researchers outside of UNM at the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute and local National Laboratories. In addition to a highly collegial and intellectually stimulating academic environment, the University of New Mexico is located in the historically rich Southwest, an area of the country noted for its geographic beauty, pleasant climate, cultural diversity, and year-round recreational activities.
