Summary of Position

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture and the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering, both at the University of New Hampshire, invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in marine animal physiology. This position is one of four being filled to enhance UNH’s excellence in marine research and teaching. We seek candidates with marine vertebrate or invertebrate physiology expertise (neuroendocrine, sensory, or behavioral approaches), especially in the context of climate change and/or other anthropogenic influences. The successful candidate will provide vibrant, high-quality instruction to the undergraduate and graduate programs in Biological Sciences, including teaching foundational courses in animal physiology and other courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate is expected to establish a high impact externally funded research program, train graduate students, and contribute to UNH’s marine biology research program.

Additional state-of-the art research infrastructure, including the University Instrumentation Center, the Research Computing Center, the Center of Integrated Biomedical and Bioengineering Research, and the Hubbard Center for Genome Studies, are available to enrich and enhance the candidate’s research program.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required by the date of hire. Preferred candidates are those with a strong publication record commensurate with experience, demonstrated grantsmanship skills, and a record of instructional experience that can fulfill the academic needs of the Department of Biological Sciences. Candidates also should be able to establish cross-disciplinary research partnerships with UNH faculty in other departments and in the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering.

Additional Preferred Qualifications                

Preferred applicants will be able to capitalize on UNH’s geographic proximity to the Gulf of Maine and the Great Bay Estuary and take advantage of existing marine infrastructure, including the Coastal Marine Laboratory, Jackson Estuarine Laboratory, Shoals Marine Laboratory, and a research vessel fleet that includes numerous small boats, the R/V Gulf Challenger, and a new Regional Class Research Vessel that is part of the East Coast Oceanographic Consortium.
