Asst/Full Professor

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, seeks candidates for a tenured or tenure track faculty position in the fields of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for materials science. Appointments at all levels from Assistant Professor up to tenured Full Professor are possible for the present position. UC Irvine has recently established the Irvine Materials Research Institute (IMRI) and is building a Center of Excellence around the new, state-of-the-art Center for Transmission Electron Microscopy, home to four high resolution, analytical, and cryo-TEMs and full sample preparation facilities (http://www.imri.uci.edu/). The successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in the development of new techniques for materials characterization in the new facility, both as an individual investigator and as a collaborator with other researchers on campus.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline, and will be expected to establish a vigorous and internationally recognized externally funded research program, maintain a strong publication record, advise students, provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute their leadership and innovative thinking toward an excellent science and engineering program within the department and the university. Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute toward increasing the number of students (especially underrepresented minority students) pursuing graduate degrees in related programs.

Applicants should upload a cover letter, a curriculum vitae (including a complete publication list), a 2-3 page concise statement of future research plans, and a teaching statement. A separate statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion should also be included in the application materials. Please provide the names and contact information of at least four references. References will not be contacted until later stages of consideration, in consultation with the candidate.
Applications must be submitted electronically at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF05706. This position will remain open until filled. To ensure full consideration, applications and supporting materials should be received by January 1, 2020. Inquiries should be addressed to search committee chair Prof. Xiaoqing Pan (Xiaoqing.pan@uci.edu).
