The Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research invites applications for a tenure stream position in metabolomics. The appointment is at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of Sept 1, 2020, or as soon as possible.

We seek a colleague whose research program and interests will strengthen our existing scientific community, which encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative technology development, and complement the Centre’s existing strengths [http://thedonnellycentre.utoronto.ca/]. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. degree, postdoctoral experience, with an exceptional track record in experimental metabolomics with a research program that will apply broad, discovery-based metabolomics and/or lipidomics techniques to explore biological pathways and networks and may leverage genetically tractable model systems.

The successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative, independent research in metabolomics at the highest international level; to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program; to have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching; and to participate actively in the Donnelly Centre and the Department of Molecular Genetics, where the successful candidate will have a graduate school appointment.

A demonstrated record of excellence in research is required as evidenced by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

A demonstrated commitment to excellent teaching and student mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels is required. To this end, candidates should provide a statement of teaching philosophy and interests. This could refer to previous experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor, leading workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or awards for oral presentations and posters at conferences.
 

State-of-the-art research space will be provided in the Donnelly Centre, which is in the heart of downtown Toronto on the University of Toronto campus. The Donnelly Centre is an interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Toronto with the mandate to create a research environment that encourages integration of biology, computer science, engineering and chemistry, and that spans leading areas of biomedical research (http://www.thedonnellycentre.utoronto.ca). The Donnelly currently houses 29 Principal Investigators from the faculties of Medicine, Applied Sciences & Engineering and Arts & Science (Chemistry, Physics). Located in the heart of Toronto’s research district, which is one of the largest and most active biomedical research communities in North America, the Donnelly makes use of open concept laboratory space to foster unconventional interactions among disciplines.

Toronto is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, one of the most desirable in the world in which to work and live, and a major centre for advanced computer, medical and biological technologies. The University of Toronto has one of the most concentrated biomedical research communities in the world, including 10 academic hospitals/research institutes that are all fully affiliated with the University.
