The Cullen College of Engineering of the University of Houston seeks applications and nominations for the Chair of the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE). We seek innovative and energetic leadership to build on the momentum generated during the past 10 years. The successful candidate must possess academic credentials of the highest caliber, with an established international reputation in research, as well as in academic and professional leadership in chemical engineering. The successful candidate will assume the ChBE Chair, an endowed chair funded by a recent major gift to the ChBE Department.

The ChBE Department currently has 19 full-time faculty members with plans to grow to 25 over the next five years. The ChBE is nationally ranked (17th in National Research Council) with vibrant programs at the graduate (15-25 PhD graduates per year) and undergraduate (80-90 BS graduates per year) levels. The ChBE Department has the highest research activity on campus with research expenditures exceeding $8 million/yr. All of the faculty members are research active and the department has seven early career awardees (NSF CAREER, DOE) among its faculty. Over half of the faculty occupies Department, College or University endowed Professorships/Chairs. The Department has established strengths in catalysis and reaction engineering, nanomaterials and soft matter, and biomolecular engineering. The ChBE Department occupies space in state-of-art laboratories, many of which are either renovated or located in the recently opened Agarwal Engineering Research Building. The Department is afforded many benefits of being located in Houston, the center of the nation’s energy and chemical process industries and home to the renowned Texas Medical Center. The region offers a myriad of opportunities, including industry-sponsored research, internships for ChBE students, and permanent employment for ChBE graduates.

The position is available beginning Fall 2020 and comes with competitive salary and benefits. The ChBE Chair Search Committee will accept and review applications until the position is filled.

The application package should include a cover letter, CV, and the contact information of four or more references.

The University of Houston, with one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The University of Houston is also responsive to the needs of dual-career couples.
