Chair, Department of Biochemistry
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, in partnership with Korn Ferry, announces a national search for the Chair, Department of Biochemistry.
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC) is a nationally recognized academic medical center with an integrated enterprise including educational and research facilities, hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, and other primary and specialty care facilities serving 20 counties in northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia. The academic flagship of WFBMC is Wake Forest School of Medicine and one of its most highly regarded basic science departments is Biochemistry, in which faculty conduct cutting-edge basic science and translational research.
The Department of Biochemistry has 13 faculty with research and education interests ranging from the fundamental principles of biochemistry to applications and innovations in translational research to treat human disease. Their focused areas of research include signal redox biology, DNA damage/repair, nucleic acid metabolism, genomics, and structural biology. In this highly visible role, the new Chair of Biochemistry will have the opportunity to catalyze the expansion of the Department.
The Chair must be a passionate advocate for the Department’s trainees, students, and faculty. They will be a major institutional leader, strengthening existing collaborative relationships throughout the health system and working with the Dean’s Office in influencing the academic enterprise for WFBMC. The next Chair of Biochemistry has the opportunity to build a leading 21st century department on a foundation of renowned training and research excellence, while serving as an advocate for the organization in all of its missions. Qualified candidates will possess a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD (or equivalent); be eligible for appointment as a full professor; have demonstrated leadership experience; and have national, and preferably international, recognition in biochemistry.
