Neurobiologist (Two-year Visiting Faculty Position)

The Biology Department at Williams College, a premier liberal arts college with a long-standing tradition of excellence in the sciences, invites applications for a two-year visiting faculty position, to begin July 2020. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research and advising, and who are committed to working effectively with a diverse student population.

We seek a Neurobiologist whose research addresses questions of broad biological significance and incorporates state-of-the-art methods. The successful candidate will teach upper-level elective courses that contribute to the interdisciplinary program in Neuroscience. A relevant course for non-majors would also be welcome.  Normally, faculty members teach one course and two associated laboratory sections (or the equivalent) each semester. This position includes use of a fully equipped lab space and access to the animal facilities, and thus the opportunity to mentor undergraduates in research.

Candidates who can involve talented undergraduates in a dynamic research program will be considered favorably.  Some internal funding for research with students is available. A Ph.D. is required; postdoctoral experience and a strong research record are preferred.

All applications should be submitted through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/70890. Email, fax, and paper applications will not be accepted. The application should include a cover letter addressed to Professor Lois Banta (Chair, Biology Department), a curriculum vitae, and concise statements of teaching and research plans.  Your cover letter should speak to your ability to work effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation and religion.  All applications received by Dec. 2 will receive full consideration, and the position will remain open until filled.  Candidates who advance to the semi-finalist stage will be asked to provide three letters of reference by Dec. 13.  For more information on the Department of Biology, visit https://biology.williams.edu/

All offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background check. Further information is available here: http://faculty.williams.edu/prospective-faculty/background-check-policy/.
